BYD new plant will produce batteries with a total capacity of 20 GW * h per year

Concern BYD launches a new plant for the production of lithium-ion batteries in Chongqing.
The planned capacity of the enterprise should be 20 GW * h per year, and production will involve eight fully automated production lines. It is expected that the first production capacity of the plant will be launched during the year.

The total cost of the investment in the company will be $1.49 billion According to preliminary estimates, the production of 20 GW⋅h battery would be equivalent to:

  • 200 000 electric cars with a battery capacity of 100 kWh
  • 400,000 electric vehicles with battery 50 kWh
  • 800 000 electric car with battery 25 kWh

Note that in 2018, BYD sold about 227 152 electrified passenger cars and 247 811 vehicles, such as buses and trucks.

The new venture is to increase the already huge potential of the company for the issue of sustainable transport.
