Tesla bought the company for the production of ultracapacitors and batteries component Maxwell, which is based in San Diego and has a staff of 380 employees. The amount of the transaction for the purchase of Maxwell has cost Tesla $218 million.
According to yet unconfirmed information, the development of Maxwell will help Tesla reduce the cost of production of batteries, and perhaps provide the impetus for the transition to the solid-state battery.
In January last year, experts of Maxwell patented the technology of “dry electrode”, which will help to increase the reserve and reduce the production cost of the battery. In addition, the company manufactures ultracapacitors that are an additional component of the battery, provide it with a wider temperature range and is able to twice extend the battery life.
