According to a nationwide survey conducted by InnovateMR, the majority of consumers are interested in automotive technology alternative power plants, such as plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars, even if the initial cost is higher than buying a traditional vehicle with internal combustion engines.
Increased fuel consumption is indicated as the most frequently mentioned reasons for consideration of such hybrid or fully electric vehicles. Personal image is the least mentioned reason.
Turning on the electric car, drivers can significantly reduce fuel costs. This fact was named as the biggest advantage among the respondents. In the long run owning an electric vehicle can significantly save owners on fuel and maintenance costs.
InnovateMR interviewed approximately 750 verified consumers by age, level of education and marital status.
The younger the respondents, the more likely it is that they would prefer alternative vehicles, which account for about 96% of the currently sold in the USA.
Willingness to pay more for alternative engines found in all demographic groups (including gender, age, education and relationship status). But men expressed great interest in plug-in vehicles (73%) than women (60%).
It is not surprising that young buyers more interested in purchasing. 80% of respondents aged 18 to 34 years said he will consider the question of choosing a more expensive vehicle with alternative propulsion, followed by 70% aged 35 to 54 years. Meanwhile, only 48% of consumers over 55 years thinking about how to pay more for plug-in vehicle.
Those who had a bachelor’s degree (71%) or a master’s degree (85%) were also more likely to pay more than those who received secondary education (49%).
“Consumers crave new technology and alternative powertrains”. “Growth trends accelerated in certain regions of the United States,” says Lisa Wilding-brown, senior researcher InnovateMR.
She adds: “the question Arises, what is the turning point of investment and the main interest of consumers in alternative vehicles.”
